March to a Healthier You

With the many months of cold, gloomy weather, staying active can be tough. Even with the teasings of spring mixed with the temperatures of winter, there are some easy things that you can do to keep your body moving, active and healthy for the season of sunshine that’s around the corner.

Here are some tips to follow for when the age old ‘Cabin Fever’ strikes:

Start your spring cleaning. There’s no time like now to get ahead of the tasks around the house. Put on some music and get moving – even the most daunting of tasks have a silver lining.

And, all that cleaning means you can dance it out! Once you get grooving, you’ll have a sparkling clean house and an afternoon of fun exercise to boot. Turn up the volume and make your own party.

Take the stairs. Whether you’re at work or at your favorite store, if there’s an elevator option, skip it. Small choices like this can seem insignificant, but getting the blood flowing is always the right choice – and one that certainly adds up.

And, while you’re out and about, take the long way. A walk outside can tease the Vitamin D, while also keeping your heart happy and healthy. Park a little farther away from where you’re going today or just go for a leisurely stroll. Your body will thank you.

While working out your body is important, it’s just as crucial for your health to keep your mind sharp, too. Find a quiet space to meditate for 15-20 minutes a day, or if you are looking for more of a challenge, try to find a few puzzles or brain teasers online. You’ll break a sweat – or a thought – in all the right ways.

There might always be one million reasons to keep your routine as is, but incorporating these small, easy choices into your everyday life are what will help keep you the healthiest version of yourself – and break the restlessness of the long winter months.

Even with all of these healthy choices, we know that accidents can, and do, happen. In the case of a non-life-threatening injury or illness, Five Star Urgent Care is here to help save the day. Walk in to a facility nearest you for quick and convenient care – with no appointment necessary.
