Over the weekend, WellNow Urgent Care administered more than 2,300 COVID-19 tests across communities in Western New York; approximately 90% were antibody tests. It was a busy weekend to say the least. We started with a few hiccups, but WellNow was born from a desire to bring communities and patients a delightful care experience that intersects the highest standards of clinical care and excellent customer service. This crisis is no exception.
We are constantly evaluating and adapting our workflows in order to maintain the WellNow experience, while still adhering to CDC-recommended safety guidelines like social distancing, increased disinfecting, and providing proper protective gear for our patients and staff. We’ve also increased the volume of COVID-19 testing supplies to match demand. But even with so many patients coming in for antibody tests, our provider evaluation protocol remains critical.
COVID-19 is complicated — there is still much we need to learn about this disease. It is important for providers to understand patients’ history, past symptoms and their path to exposure in order to determine if the antibody test is the only test needed. And on top of that, it’s incredibly important we make sure we have the same safe space, time and providers available to care for our patients with non-COVID-19 urgent care issues every single day.
Needless to say, we truly appreciate everyone’s patience as wait times have been longer than normal. And we continue to be so grateful to all of our staff working tirelessly to help deliver this high standard of care to our communities in the face of this pandemic.
